Tax Exempt #31-1021547
Dear Alumni:
In my 2007 letter to you [written in January 2007] - I told you about all the progress that camp had made on its facilities and its enrollments during the 2006 year. Well, 2007 had its up=s and down=s.
The camps enrollments were good. Summer camp enrollment was coming back to our record levels of the middle >80s. Staff and campers had one of the best summers ever. More smiles left camp, more great memories left camp, and more positive thoughts left camp at the end of ever period. Our parent survey= s came back in record numbers. We had very few negative comments and many many good or excellent marks. We had a great 2007 summer.
Falls off season camping was scheduled to have a great year too. We had a record number of families signed up for Labor Day Camp . . . . . and a good deal of schools signed up for Outdoor Education. Then the storms! We had to cancel Labor Day Camp and a great deal of school groups, as camp was just not a safe place to be.
But good comes from bad! We asked the Alumni to step up and help . . . . and it happened in record numbers. I was not surprised - but humbled by the outpouring of support that many of you gave to camp. $5.00 checks, $100 checks and some much much larger were received by the Alumni Association and by Camp directly. We figured [at last estimate] that we have had more than $180,000 in damage. To date we have raised more than $80,000 to help with the relief effort. We are still waiting on the insurance company to tell us their contribution, but things are looking better and better at camp.
As a matter of fact - camp looks better than ever. Some major woods have been cleared. New roads cut, and some major erosion areas have been worked on. Much still needs to be done - but it= s all minor to what has occurred already. Camp is beautiful. We need to grow some grass in many erosion area= s - can= t do anything till spring. But the place really looks good - and it= s because of your support!
We have provided a list of what that Alumni Association did in 2007. A lot was done - but we still need to do more. Facilities are always in need, Program supplies are always in need, Bathrooms are always in need! If you would like to help - please join the Alumni Association in 2008. $40 a year is not much to ask [of course you can give more]. So please won=t you join today?
Your help and support is appreciated by the youth of yesterday, today and by the youth of tomorrow. Think about those smiles after being at camp . . . . . make a smile today. Join us won=t you?
Very Sincerely Yours, Join The Alumni Association!
