The Outdoor Education program currently affects over 2,000 local students each Spring and Fall.
During their two to five day stay at YMCA Camp Eberhart, students experience school in a new environment. We have a range of classes which correspond with their school curriculum and can be adapted for the 4th to 7th grade level by our excellent Outdoor Education instructors. Many of the classes relate closely to the curriculum for both MEAP testing in Michigan and ISTEP testing in Indiana.
For an idea of some of the classes offered, check out our curriculum guide. Much of our curriculum is teamwork and education-based, but we can always find a little time for recreational activities such as Canoeing or Archery.
The Environmental Outdoor Education program is at its busiest in Spring and Fall, but over the past few years, both Spring and Fall have extended so far that we have added Winter Environmental Outdoor Education to our year. Schools are already signing up for our new classes which include Winter Tracking, Snow Ecology, Frozen Lake Exploration and Snow-shoeing and Snowmound-building.
If you know of any schools or teachers in the Michiana (Northern Indiana/Southern Michigan) area whose students would benefit from this program, please call Camp Eberhart (888.YCAMPEB or 269.244.5125) to request our Teacher's Handbook.
